The Austrian Brandlbracke is primarily a hunting dog, also known as Australian Smoothhaired Hound, Austrian Hound or the Osterreichischer Glat thaariger Bracke. It is a dog par excellence when it comes to silent hunting. They are also known for their flowing gaits and swift agile movement. They share some similarities with German breeds, nevertheless, they are Austrian though and through. This breed is a solemn-looking, medium-sized dog. They make a good runner, an excellent sense of smell and are used to find all types of hunting. They are known as highly prized dog in Austria for its stealthy hunting skill.
They come in black, slightly shaded or stained light brown.
The coat of this breed is shiny, short, straight, smooth and close-fitting. Some have minimal white markings on their chest, necks and feet.
The Austrian Brandlbracke is a responsive, obedient, lovable, high-spirited, while serious in hunting and is sentimental when it comes to the family. They are good-natured, well-balanced and experts on sniffing trails and hunting jobs. They present a fine sense of smell an d is very good bloodhound especially in the hunting with barks of the hare.
This breed is very easy to take care since they shed minimal to none. It is important to always keep them clean for hygiene and bathing should be done when necessary.
These breeds are intelligent and are very easy to train. Early socialization and obedience training should be done at puppyhood or at the moment they get home. They do not respond with harsh training but with a fair, firm and consistent trainer. It is important for the training with positive reinforcement to be fun and enjoyable to keep interested.
This breed are normally active indoors, very energetic and playful. They enjoy having lots of outdoor activities. They will need moderate exercise routines to burn off their energies and tire them out. They can fit in an apartment dwelling life if provided with enough exercises.
