Vaginal Abnormalities in Dogs

Vaginal malformations are recognized as altered anatomic architecture. The condition can be congenital or acquired. Congenital abnormalities include imperforate hymen (where hymen is solid, not allowing fluids or penetration), dorsoventral septum, hymen tightening or cysts.

Acquired vaginal malformations inclulde anamolies such as vaginal overgrowth, foreign bodies, strictures (tightening), adhesions (abnormal fibrous tissue sticking to the structures) and cancer.

Symptoms for this condition are:

Vulvar discharge

Excessive licking of the vulva

Frequent or inappropriate urination

Straining to urinate or defecate

Wetting in the house, in the bed, etc.

Attractive to males

Refuses mating

Mass at the lips of vulva

Skin disorder around vulva

Abnormally small vulva
