General
The Aidi dog is also known as Chien de l'Atlas, Atlas Sheepdog or Atlas Mountain Hound. Its origin is Morocco. Lean and muscular, this dog is hardy and well-muscled. The ears are shaggy and eyes big which give this dog a very cute look. The head is in proportion to the body and gives the dog some resemblance to a bear. The muzzle is tapered with black or brown nose. The ears are tapered with black or brown tight lips. The coarse and thick, water-resistant coat protects the dog from weather extremes.
The dog has a great scenting sense and it is still used in Morocco in pair with the Sloughi dog for hunting. The Aidi tracks a prey and the Sloughi chases it down.
The Aidi is a medium size dog with a height of around 20 to 25 inches and weight around 55 pounds. It comes in many different colours like black, white, black and white, pale red, beige, tawny,sable, brown and black and tricolor.
This breed is NOT recognized by AKC. It is however recognized by FCI, UKC and DRA.

Coat
The coat is coarse, thick and water resistant which keeps the dog from weather extremes. The hair length can be up to 6cm except for face and ears.
Personality
The Aidi dog is a faithful, loyal and highly protective dog. It is very agile and energetic. Its alertness makes it a great watch dog. This dog is always ready for action. Being a flock guardian, the protective nature of this dog is very visible. Together with its fearless approach to counter any danger, this dog proves to be a very effective protector of its master if a danger arises. Thus it makes not only a good watch dog but also a great guard dog that is always alert and ready for action. Despite its background as sheep and goat flock guardian, the Aidi is very gentle, faithful, loving and friendly with its human family. This dog is specially gentle and patient with children. It also gets along well with other dogs and pets in the family. It is a sensitive dog breed that is highly trainable with calm yet firm master. The owners should spend time with this dog as it has a tendency to become shy or aggressive if it is not catered well. Strong sense of smell makes this dog a great companion during hunting. This dog needs early age training not to be too aggressive towards unknown people or animal as it has a very strong sense of protecting its family.
Care
Early age training is very essential for this dog to prevent it from being too protective of the family and aggressive towards strangers. The coat requires brushing regularly specially when it is shedding.

The Aidi dogs are intelligent yet sensitive. They learn fast but need a trainer who is calm, confident and firm.
Activity
This breed is highly energetic. Being a working breed, this dog needs constant physical and mental stimulation to spend its high energy levels. Long daily walks are essential for this dog.
