General

The Alopekis is also called 'Alopecis' meaning 'small dog' in Greek language. It is indeed a small dog with a fox-like appearance. It has a wedge-shaped head that features pricked ears. The eyes are large. The muzzle is deep and tapered. It has broad nose that is in proportion to muzzle. They have long bodies, wide chest, elongated ribcage and strong feet. It has a beautiful medium size double coat with natural sheen. The coat comes in different colours.

This dog is loving, happy, playful, very adaptable to different surroundings, human loving and highly intelligent. It can be a great family pet, full of very desirable features.

The dog is NOT recognized by AKC. However it is recognized by DRA.

The coat can have any colour and colour combination.

Coat

The Alopekis has a hard but smooth outer coat and a dense and soft under coat. The medium sized coat comes in almost all colours and has a natural sheen to it.

Personality

Spunky and outgoing, the Alopekis is full of character. This breed has a happy temperament. The dog is happy, playful, adaptable and human loving. It exhibits all the desirable qualities. It is a multipurpose dog and a faithful and devoted companion. This breed is obedient, lively, faithful and loyal, strong and hardy, friendly, gentle, eager to please and even-tempered. It is very protective and courageous dog. This breed bonds strongly with human family. These dogs are very gentle and friendly with all family and specially children. They are multipurpose dogs who can perform equally well in city or farm life. Due to adaptability trait, they fit into city and farm life equally well. They can be used to look-after the flock, kill the vermin, work as an excellent watch dog and almost any other task the master asks for. This breed is a great family pet.

Care

This breeds minimal grooming. Brushing of the coat every now and then would keep it clean. The dog should be bathed when absolutely necessary as excessive bathing will destroy natural sheen and oil of the skin.

Training

This highly intelligent breed can easily learn to perform different simple and complex tricks. This breed loves to please their master is very obedient. This along high intelligence makes these dogs very trainable and fast learners. These dogs are not at all difficult to train.

Activity

Though small in size, the Alopekis requires lots of physical activities and space to carry out those activities. It has high levels of energy which need to be consumed. The dog should be taken not only for daily walks but should also be given ample playing and running opportunities. An under-exercised dog will display undesirable behaviors such as digging, chewing, barking etc.
