This medium-sized dog, which originated in France, is used primarily for hunting small game by sight and by driving them towards the waiting hunter. This breed has lean and elongated head without wrinkles. Eyes are dark and gentle while the ears are medium-sized, soft and cone-shaped. Muzzle is medium and slightly tapering. The neck is slender and arched slightly to the chest which is deep and narrow. The dog has straight forelegs and powerful hind legs. Feet are hard and fox-like and tail is slightly curved. The coat of this breed is short and smooth. The Ariegeois can be 55-65 pounds in weight and can be from 22 to 24 inches in height.
