Breed Details

General

The Aussie-Flat is the result of cross breed between the Australian Shepherd and the Flat Coated Retriever. These breed is a working dog that is most often used as guide for the blind. They are very lovable, obedient, affectionate, sweet and charming. They make a great family companion. They also excel in watch dogging with their size and herding instincts.

Color

Like their Aussie parent, these breeds come in combinations of red merle, blue merle or red and black, sometimes with white markings and/or tan (copper) points.

Coat

The coat of these breeds are moderate in length. can be silky and harsh. It is weather-resistant to protect their coat from getting easily dirty from their daily routines.

Personality

The Aussie-Flat is a loving, affectionate, charming and friendly breed. They love being with the family and enjoys when they are given the attention. They are courageous, loyal, sometimes territorial and protective breed like their Aussie parent. They are a less aggressive than normal breeds and can get along well with children and other dogs, especially when they are given early socialization ang training.

Care

These breeds shed averagely. They will require regular brushing and grooming to maintain their good looking coat. Bathing should be done when necessary, using a mild soap to refrain skin irritations and allergies.

Training

The Aussie-Flat is a highly intelligent breed and extremely trainable. It is important for these breeds to keep their training interesting and fun to keep them active and willing to learn. Their ability to recognize the master makes them the easiest to train. They will need a trainer with firm and gentle hand, consistency and a lot of patience. Like their parents, they can excels with competitive obedience, agility, tracking, retrieving and watch dogging.

Activity

The Aussie-Flat is very energetic, playful and active breed. They are not suitable for an apartment living with their medium size. Having a large yard and a lot of outdoor activities will be best for them. They will require an average exercises so taking them outdoors and giving them regular 2-3 hours of walks or running routine is advised.
