The Braque d'Auvergne is a breed of dog that is a descendant of ancient regional types of hunting dogs. These dogs were bred to be a pointer and versatile gundog that originated in the mountain area of Cantal, in the historic Auvergne province in the mid-south of France. The Braque d'Auvergne is also known to be called Bleu d'Auvergne, Auvergne Pointer and Auvergne Pointing Dog.
The dog is known for their incredible hardiness, speed and energy. They have an excellent nose and are good pointers and retrievers. These active dogs can become accustomed to almost any environment. They make wonderful family dogs as they can get along fine with children and other house pets as long as they were raised to have them around since puppy hood.
The dog's short and shiny coat is fairly easy to maintain. It doesn't need too much bathing while only brushing the dog's coat regularly could be the most that you'd need to do for grooming them. Their ears will require cleaning and regular checking for infections as drooped ears are prone to ear infections.
