The Cambodian Razorback Dog is a very rare and long haired ridgeback dog originating in Cambodia. It is a powerful and larger dog than other ridgeback dogs like Phu Quoc dog from Vietnam and the Thai ridgeback. It has a short head with broad skull. Nose is black and eyes are round and dark. Ears are pricked and alert. The coat is long with very pronounced ridge on the back. The dog is found in solid and combination of colors.
The dog is very powerful, agile and active. It stands up to 20 inches or more and weighs around 60 pounds. The dog has never been recognized as pure breed by the local Cambodians. It is used by farmers for hunting and protection dog.
Cambodian Razorback dogs are usually parti-colored with a combination of white with either black, blue, brown or fawn. Solid colors without white also exist.
The coat is long with a prominent ridge. The ridge is very well defined and stands over 2 inches high on the back. Being a long haired dog, the ridge tends to be even more noticeable. The fur is also much longer than the other ridgebacks.
This primitive dog is good natured and friendly with its family but territorial with strangers. It has strong protective instincts and will protect its family if such need arises. Otherwise quiet, the dog is alert and will bark to alarm the family of a coming stranger. It makes an excellent watch and guard dog. It is also used for hunting purposes. The dog needs proper training and socialization from young age. A properly trained and socialized dog will make good family pet and very good watch dog.
The long coat may need regular brushing.
