Cao de Fila de Sao Miguel

The C�o de Fila de S�o Miguel is also known as Azores Cattle Dog or Saint Miguel Cattle Dog. This medium size working dog has documented evidence of existence since the beginning of the 19th century. It is used by farmers for guarding, herding and even as companion dog. The breed is descendent of now extinct Terceira Dog. This robust and hardy dog is not only a working breed but is also a very capable family pet with proper socialization.

The dog stands between 19.5 to 23.5 inches and weighs between 55-75 lbs. This robust and hardy dog is slightly longer than tall. It has a strong head with broad and square shaped skull. Nose is wide and black with straight muzzle while medium size expressive eyes are oval shaped and set slightly sunken. Ears are set above the level of the eyes; when not cropped they are of medium size, triangular and dropping but not touching to the cheeks. They are cropped with rounded tips in countries where ear cropping is not forbidden. Neck is straight, strong and medium length. Body is strong and well muscled with broad chest and straight back. Tail is medium length, thick and set high. Legs are strong and long. Coat is short, smooth and dense and comes in brindle of brown or grey with black.

The dog is NOT recognized by AKC however it is recognized by FCI.
