Breed Details
General
The Chi-Poo is a mix breed that is produced by cross breeding between a Chihuahua and a Poodle purebreds. These dogs are called hybrid dogs. They are small dog breed that is very loving and affectionate. Their general characteristics are derived from their parent breeds. They have a small head and a black nose. They have small body and their ears can be pointy or flappy. They have round eyes with black or brown coloring.
Color
Both parent breeds of this hybrid come in a variety of colours and same is true for the resulting hybrid. Most commonly, the colouring for the Chipoons is black with tan, white and apricot with black markings and tan and white.
Coat
The coat for these dogs can be smooth, wiry and coarse or it can be fluffy like a poodle or a mix of both. The coat can be short or long.
Personality
The Chipoo dogs are very sweet, loyal and loving dogs. They may show some 'bossy' type attitude like a chihuahua but generally, they are very cute dogs to have as family pets. They are very intelligent and clever dogs that know how to amuse their family. They like to cuddle up and sit in lap. Their behavior makes them even more loveable. Early socialization should be undertaken to prevent them from attaching to one member of the house otherwise they may experience separation issues.
Care
They would need regular brushing and combing of their coat. They should be bathed every 4-6 weeks. They are low shedders
Training
They are very easy to train dogs although chihuahua traits may make them stubborn at times. This can be overcomed by positive reinforcement, love and rewards. They are very intelligent dogs that like to please their owners.
Activity
The Chipoons are very active dogs and would require ample time for playing and running. They love long walks outside as well.
