Breed Details
General
The Cosheltie is a mix between a Border Collie and a Shetland Sheepdog purebreds. They are medium size dogs standing around 13 to 22 inches and weighing in between 18 to 30 pounds. They are loyal, social, alert, intelligent and responsive dogs that are good with all ages.
They are found in different colours and their coat can be thick and long like a Shetland or corded and dense like a Collie. Either way, the coat is rough and harsh. They are average shedding dogs and would require regular grooming.
Color
The Cosheltie dogs are found in many colours. Common colouring for these dogs can be a combination of black, black and tan, blue, brown, red and white.
Coat
These dogs can have medium to long coat with thick or dense hair. In any way, the coat will be rough as both parent dogs have rough coats.
Personality
They are intelligent and loving dogs having characteristics of both parent breeds. They are lively, energetic, playful and willing to please dogs. Being a cross breed between two different purebreds, these dogs can be very good with children and other pets in the family or they can show their herding behavior towards them so it is advisable to be around when these dogs are near children. They require lots of exercise and mental stimulation to remain happy.
Care
They may require frequent grooming of their coat. Regular brushing of their coat is necessary.
Training
The two parent breeds rank high on intelligence level and the resulting hybrid is no different. They are highly intelligent dogs that can learn new tricks very quickly.
Activity
This dog breed requires lots of exercise and mental stimulation. Having both parents from herding background, they also have this instinct embedded in them. This can be taken care of by fair amount of exercise, playing and running opportunities for these dogs.
