Breed Details

General

The Coton Eskimo is a mix between an American Eskimo and a Coton De Tulear purebreds. They are called hybrid dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds.

They are small dogs but their exact height and weight depends on which American Eskimo is used as parent breed as their are three sizes for American Eskimo.

The Coton Eskimo dogs are very loving, affectionate and playful. Their alertness makes them good watch dogs.

Color

Common colours for these hybrids are white, black and white, white with cream or biscuit markings and tri-colour.

Coat

They have a dense and profuse coat that is fluffy and very soft.

Personality

The Coton Eskimo dogs are very loving and eager to please dogs. They are obedient and like to be part of the family. These dogs are intelligent, gentle, social yet alert and wary of strangers and will make good watch dogs. They are very affectionate with children and do well with other dogs and pets in the family. These dogs are not vocal but will express their joy during play with barking and growling. They are excellent dogs to have as family pets.

Care

Their coat needs regular brushing to remove dead hair and prevent matting. These dogs will need bath once a month.

Training

The Coton Eskimos are very trainable as they like to please their owners and obey them. They are also intelligent and will learn quickly.

Activity

They are very energetic dogs that are active indoors. They will need to walk daily to satisfy their need to walk.
