General
The Dorkie is a cross between a Dachshund and a Yorkshire Terrier purebreds. They are called hybrid dogs. These hybrids and a body that is longer like a Dachshund and short like a Yorkshire Terrier. They may have erect or floppy ears and a tail which is always wagging.
These dogs have a coat that is soft and dense while length of the coat can be long or short. They are happy, loving and great family dogs that love to get attention. They are good with children and other pets in the family.
Color
They are found in many colours like dapple, black and tan, red and gold.
Coat
Their coat is soft and fluffy. It can be long or medium size and it is very maintainable.
Personality
The Dorkie dogs are fun-loving, affectionate and happy dogs that are very good family pets. They are generally good with small children and other pets and dogs in the family although supervision is needed when they are around children. They love to get attention and like to cuddle and sit in the lap. They are gentle and active dogs who sometimes attach themselves with one person in the family but still they are good with other members as well. These hybrids have short, deep bark and will need to be trained not to bark without any reason. They are good dogs to have for first time dog owners and will do o.k. in small houses or apartments. They love to play specially with children.
Care
They have very soft and wispry type of coat that is long or medium in length. The coat requires minimum maintenance. Regular brushing is enough for these dogs.
Training
They are intelligent dog breeds and should learn fast but they have Dachshund trait that makes them hard to train sometimes. They may show willful behavior towards training and will require firm and committed training session where the owner will establish himself as the packleader.
Activity
They are quite active dogs and would require daily walks and play sessions to keep themselves fit and happy.
