General
The Golddust Yorkshire Terrier is a small toy terrier originating in Germany. This delightful and alert dog has a very compact and clean appearance. Basically, the dog is a Yorkshire Terrier but its unique coloration did not allow it to be shown in the show ring since the Yorkshire terriers cannot have 'Golddust' colour. This dog is the result of a genetic mutation in the dog that give rise to gold hue colour. This gene mutation needs to be present in both parent dogs otherwise puppies with gold dust colour will not be produced.
The Golddust Yorkshire Terrier is a small dog that stands between 7.8 to 9.8 inches and weighs about 11 lbs. The dog comes with a small and flat head and moderate muzzle. Medium size eyes are not prominent. They come in green-brown to dark brown colour, holding expression of sharp intelligence. Small, V-shaped ears are set not too far apart. Pink spots are allowed on the nose but black is preferable. The body is very compact with well formed hips and a level topline. Fore and hindlegs are straight and covered with hair. The single coat is long enough to reach the ground. It is straight, silky and shiny. It comes in white-gold colour.
This breed is NOT recognized by AKC.
Color
The Golddust Yorkshire Terrier dogs have a distinctive White-Gold colour. It can be present on the body in any distribution pattern. Hair on the breast are pure white. No black hair should be present in the adult coat however puppies can have black hair which spikes.
Coat
The coat is long, about 3/4th of the body height and may even be long enough to reach the ground. It is absolutely straight with a silky texture.
Personality
The Golddust Yorkshire Terrier is a cheerful, intelligent and self-confident dog that is oblivious of its size. Highly adventurous, brave, energetic and clever, the Golddust Yorkshire Terrier is a delightful and alert dog. It is a sweet-natured dog that gets along well with children in the family and does not cause problems around other dogs if well trained. It needs firm training to curb its sometimes stubborn behavior. The dog makes an excellent watchdog due to its highly alert nature. It will signal arrival of an stranger to its family immediately. Affectionate and loving, the dog makes an excellent companion. Early socialization and training is needed to ensure the dog is obedient and responsive to its master and family.
Care
The long coat should be brushed 2-3 times a week. Most people who get this dog for companionship and not for show ring, prefer to have this breed in a perpetual puppy cut. Dogs used for show ring have longer hair. Bath is needed every 3-4 weeks.
Training
Intelligent and obedient, this breed is trainable though it can sometimes show stubborn and willful behavior. A confident and stable trainer will get the best out of this breed with firm yet gentle training sessions.
Activity
The Golddust Yorkshire Terrier is a very active and high energy dog. Despite its small size, the dog has lots of energy. It needs daily walking as well as playing time to use up its energy levels. This dog is very active indoor as well.
