Breed Details
General
The Griffonshire is a mix between a purebred Brussels Griffon and a purebred Yorkshire Terrier. They are called hybrid dogs as they originate from two different pure breeds.
These hybrids are small in size, standing not more than 8 inches and weighing around 10 pounds. These dogs are alert, cheerful, loyal and intelligent. They are well-mannered and gentle dogs for their family and make good watchdogs.
Color
Common colours for these dogs are blue, black and tan, black, brown and red or a mix of these colours.
Coat
The coat can be like a Yorkshire Terrier coat that is long and silky or it can be one of two types of Brussels Griffon coat; either rough, dense and wiry coat or short, smooth, shiny, straight coat.
Personality
The Griffonshire dogs are intelligent, high energy, affectionate and loving. They are good with children and other dogs and pets in the family. They have a tendency to be willful and become a pack leader. This should be discouraged by establishing the human command over these dogs. They are intelligent and can be taught tricks to perform. Their alertness and attentiveness makes them good watch dogs. They are wary of strangers and unfamiliar animals. Early socialization and obedience training is necessary to keep these dogs from behaving undesirably.
Care
Their coat requires frequent grooming. They are low to non-shedding dogs and would require regular brushing.
Training
These intelligent little dogs are easy to train. They can even learn to perform certain tricks.
Activity
The Griffonshire dogs are high energy and will require daily walks and play time to burn out excess energy.
