General
The Jack Tzu is a mix between a purebred Shih Tzu and a purebred Jack Russell Terrier. They are called hybrid dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds.
The Jack Tzu is a small dog that stands up to 14 inches and can have weight around 16 pounds. These dogs are loving affectionate. They generally resemble a Jack Russell Terrier in appearance and have a Shih Tzu coat.
Color
They are found in different colours but mostly seen in white with brown or black patches. They are also found in biscuit colours. Other colours for these dogs can be solid white, black, brown, red, silver or a mix of these colours.
Coat
Their coat can be double-coated, long, soft and silky like a Shih Tzu or short to medium smooth and rough mix coat of a Jack Russell Terrier.
Personality
The Jack Tzu dogs are lively, loving and affectionate. They are very alert dogs and can make very good watch dogs. These hybrids are also good with children and make good play mates. These dogs generally get along well with other dogs and pets in the family but do have inherent aggression and hunting trait which makes them less secure for other small pets in the house. The Jack Tzu dogs need to be properly trained and socialized. Every family member should demonstrate leadership to these dogs or they will become 'BOSSY' and may try to dictate what they want. The Jack Tzu dogs are very active and need playing and running time beside daily walks. They socialize well with strangers but same can not be said of unfamiliar dogs. They should only be unleashed in a secured fence or if they are very well trained or they might indulge in animal chasing and dog fighting. These hybrids are very family oriented and love to spend their time with the family.
Care
Their Shih Tzu coat will require constant grooming as it will grow fast. If these hybrids have Jack Russell coat, only average to minimal grooming would be required.
Training
The Jack Tzu dogs are easy to train provided they are trained by an experienced trainer who knows how to display pack leader qualities. They can learn new tricks.
Activity
Despite their size, these dogs are very active and would need spacious yard to play and run. They would also need to go on daily walks. They can fit into apartment life if their exercise needs are met.
