Breed Details

General

The Japeke is a mix between a Japanese Chin and a Pekingese purebreds. These dogs are called hybrid dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds.

The Japeke dogs are small in size, not standing more than 11 inches and weighing around 7 to 20 pounds. These dogs are alert, cheerful and loyal as well as independent. They inherit features and characteristics of their parent breeds.

Color

The Japeke dogs are found in black, black and tan, red and white or any mix of these colours.

Coat

These dogs can have fine and short coat of a Chin that is easy to groom or they can have a long and double coat of a Pekingese that requires regular brushing and grooming to be kept clean.

Personality

The Japeke dogs are meant to be companion dogs and that is what they are. Very loving and affectionate, these dogs love to be with their master and family members all the time. They are very family oriented and enjoy human company. They are very good with small children as well as other dogs and pets in the family. These dogs are alert and attentive to their surroundings and make good watch dogs. These dogs can learn fast and even learn and perform small tricks. They are very well-mannered and well-behaved dogs if properly trained. As like all other small dogs, they can develop Small Dog Syndrome, a behavioral issue, in which dog try to take over the role of the pack leader. This happens when the family shows tolerance towards their undesirable behavior or when the owner is too sweet and treat these dogs like they are human. These dogs are active but do not require any other activity other than a daily walk as they consume most of their energy while playing indoor. They are very good pets to have as family, companion and watch dogs.

Care

Chin like coat is easy to groom and maintain as it only requires brushing every 3-4 days. A Pekingese type coat needs lot more grooming and care as it will need to be brushed daily.

Training

These dogs are easy to train but need firm and consistent training.

Activity

They require moderate level of exercise in the form of daily walk.
