The Labradoodle Australian comes in three varieties; the Labradoodle Australian bred in Australia with the purpose to convert this cross breed into a pure breed; the Australian Labradoodle bred in USA as a hybrid and the American Labradoodle.
The breed standards for Australian Labradoodle bred in Australia with a purebreed in mind, suggest that the dog should be athletic yet compact with substance and medium boning. The breed should be joyful and energetic when free and quiet and soft when handled. The dog should be gentle and friendly. Head should be broad with well-defined eye-brows. Eyes should be slightly round, large and expressive and should set well apart. Ears should be set flat against head and should not reach below lower lip. Nose should be large, square and fleshy. Body should appear compact with shoulders being slightly angulated and should have strong elbow. Legs should be strong. The dog should appear to be 'going somewhere' when it is trotting and when galloping, flanks should raise up from a deep brisket and well-sprung ribs. The single coat should be 4-6 cm long with straight, wavy or slightly soft curls. The dog can sport one or more of many colours.
This breed can be found in three different sizes including standard with 22-26 inches height and weighing between 45-80 pounds; medium with a height of 18-21 inches and weighing around 28-50 pounds and miniatures ranging in height from 13-17 inches and weighing between 18-40 pounds.
This dog is NOT recognized by AKC however LAA, IALA and DRA recognize it as pure breed.
