Breed Details

General

The Malti-Pug is a cross between a purebred Maltese and a purebred Pug. They are called hybrid dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds.

They are small dogs with a height of 8 to 14 inches and a weight in between 7 to 20 pounds. These dogs are short and stocky with an under bite. They are alert, cheerful and social dogs that are very kind and devoted to their family.

They are alert and attentive dogs, and make good watchdogs.

Color

The Malti-Pug dogs are found in different colors like white, apricot, fawn, black and silver or any mix of these colors.

Coat

Their coat can be soft, fine and smooth like a Pug or it can be long and silky like a Maltese.

Personality

The Malti-Pug dogs are extremely playful, lively and cuddly dogs. They are very devoted to their families and love to be with them most of the time. These dogs are very gentle and affectionate with children and can make good playmates as they are sturdy. These dogs are very social and can get along well with other dogs and animals. The Malti-Pug dogs are alert and attentive and will make good watchdogs. They are quiet and docile dogs that make excellent companion dogs and family pets.

Care

They should be supervised when playing with children as they can occasionally be snappish. Their Maltese coat will need to be brushed daily but if coat is more like a Pug, it will need minimal grooming. Whenever bathed, care should be taken to dry out areas such as the ears, to prevent infections.

Training

They are intelligent dogs but can be stubborn and head-strong as well. These dogs will need to be trained with firm and consistent rewards-based training. Harsh words, though, can do more harm than good to the dogs' personality, as they are sensitive to overly strict correction.

Activity

They are active dogs but indoor play will take care of most of their exercise needs. They will need a daily walk to be happy.
