Breed Details

General

The Maltichon is a cross between a Maltese and a Bichon Frise purebreds. These hybrids are small in size and are very loving and affectionate dogs. They are very family-oriented, loving, and gentle with children. They get along well with other dogs and pets in the family.

They are excellent dogs to have as family and companion pets.

Color

Both parent breeds are found in white color and the resulting hybrid is also found in white color. Occasional colors would be apricot and cream.

Coat

They have a very soft, fluffy, slightly curly or wavy coat that is low-shedding. Depending on which parent breed comes through, the offspring can have either a single- or double-coat. Single coats would be silky to the touch, while top coats would be coarse, with dense undercoats.

Personality

The Maltichon are very gentle and loving dogs. They are also playful and cheerful and make excellent playmates for children. Children should be taught not to rough-handle these delicate dogs, though. They are very social and mix well with other dogs and pets in the family. These dogs are alert and attentive. They are not noisy dogs and will bark only to signal the arrival of a unfamiliar guest. They are good watchdogs. These dogs need to be taken for daily walks to satisfy their need to walk. They make excellent family and companion dogs.

Care

Their coat needs to be professionally clipped and groomed every 4 - 6 weeks. They should be brushed every other day to keep the coat shiny and clean, and minimize snarls or mats.

Training

Training these eager-to-please and intelligent dogs is not difficult. They respond well to clear, consistent commands, especially when coupled with praise or small treats..

Activity

These dogs are very active and energetic. Play will take care of their exercise needs but they will need to be taken for 15-minute walks daily to satisfy their walking instincts.
