The Mauxie is a cross between a purebred Dachshund and a purebred Maltese. They are called hybrid or designer dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds.
These hybrids are small in size, standing no more than 15 inches and weighing around 10 to 20 pounds. They are alert, courageous, loyal and social dogs. They have long and straight coat which needs daily brushing. They are found in a variety of colours that mostly comes from Dachshund side.
These dogs are very unique mix that is rare and hard to find but they make good family dogs.
Maltese are mostly found in one color; white, while Dachshunds are found in a variety of colors. As a result, their mix is found in many colors like solid-colored tan or yellow or bi-colored deep black, brown or gray.
They have long and silky coat that needs daily brushing. In terms of the coat characteristic, most of them follows that of the Maltese which is a single layer but is really silky and hangs flat over the sides of its body.
The Mauxie dogs are lively, affectionate and brave dogs. They are family oriented and friendly. These dogs are gentle and even-tempered that are good with children. They get along well with other dogs and pets in the family. These dogs are playful and energetic and love to play outside for play. They are good dogs to have as family pets.
Their coat needs regular brushing to keep their coat clean and shiny. You may also need to do a rubdown using a damp cloth over its body and a professional grooming when the coat goes unruly.
Training may be quite easy for this breed but the trainer must need to be consistent on being the pack leader because they had the tendencies to overrule their masters. So the masters must take control over their pets to avoid behavioral problems. They may show stubborn behavior when it comes to training. They would need firm and consistent training and a patient handler to be properly trained.
These little dogs will do okay with moderate level of exercise. A daily walk is enough to take care of their exercise needs. To provide the dog its contentment, you have to expose them in an outside environment to play around as it is outgoing by nature. Daily walk is also deemed necessary. However, you just need to be careful on the jumping activities because it may break its spine. And also the area should be safe and free from any vehicle.
