Breed Details

General

The Miniature Boxer is the result of a mix between a purebred Boxer and a purebred Boston Terrier. This tough-looking dog is a breed that is made possible because of the breeder's desires to have a boxer looking dog but is small enough to be called a miniature. This is the reason why the boxer breed is mixed with a Boston Terrier.

They are medium in size with an average height of 15-22 inches and weight around 25-55 pounds. They are alert, intelligent, loyal and social dogs. They are playful, gentle and loving to their family but wary of strangers. These dogs have strong personality and their alertness makes them good watch dogs.

Color

The Miniature Boxer dogs are found in different colors like black, brown, white, silver and red or any mix of these colors. Usually, the lighter color is on the chest area.

Coat

They have short, fine and hard coat that is easy to groom. The coat is neat-looking and does not require much time and money for maintenance because it is shorter in length. It also gives a smooth feeling when touched because of its fine texture.

Personality

The Miniature Boxer dogs are very friendly, loving, devoted and affectionate to their family but they are distrustful of strangers. These dogs are gentle and patient with children. These social dogs can get along with other dogs and pets in the family. They are protective of their family and will stand to protect them till the end. They are non-aggressive dogs but can be formidable guardian if provoked by a potential threat. They are suspicious of strangers and will alert their family of an approaching stranger. They like to be with their family and do not like to be left along. They do have tendency to be chewing, licking or digging out of boredom. These dogs will need lots of physical exercise to keep fit and relieved. They are excellent family dogs that are equally excellent watch/guard dogs.

Care

Their short and fine coat needs low maintenance. Brushing the coat every other day is enough to keep it shiny and clean. Expectedly, dogs have an odor of their own that is really identifiable of their kind. But this tyoe of hybrid, does not give off a strong dog scent and that will not require daily bathing. Drying damp areas around its eyes to limit infection occurrences must be done instead.

Training

They are very intelligent dogs and easy to train with positive and reward based training routines. But sometimes because of the fondness of humans to this breed, they may have a tendency to develop a dog behavior problem. They may show occasional stubborn behavior but it can be taken care with gentle yet firm and loving training. For that reason, you must be able to convey a natural air of authority upon giving instructions and it has to be in a consistent manner. Harsh training methods will prove useless for these dogs.

Activity

The Miniature Boxers are very active dogs and need fair amount of mental and physical stimulation to satisfy their working nature. These dogs will need to run and play along with daily walks to keep fit and healthy.
