General
The Nortese are a mix between a Norwich Terrier and Maltese purebreds. They are called hybrid dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds.
These are small size dogs with an average height of 8 to 10 inches and weight in between 7 to 12 pounds. They are active, loyal and alert dogs who are very family oriented. These dogs are compatible with other dogs and pets in the family. They are social dogs and will love to be with their family most of the time.
The Nortese dogs are found in different parent colours and can have either of their parent coat colours.
Color
These dogs are found in different parent breed colours. Common colours include black and tan, red, wheaten, grizzle and white or any mix of these colours.
Coat
They can have a Maltese minimal shedding long and soft single coat or they can have Terrier's double, thick, wiry and harsh top coat with soft under coat.
Personality
The Nortese dogs are small but hardy dogs with high energy and loyal nature. They are lively, playful, intelligent and cuddly dogs that love nothing more than spending time with their owners. They are very family oriented and human loving dogs that are very good and gentle with children. They also get along well with other dogs and pets though proper socialization is important as these dogs have a tendency to chase after small animals like rodents and squirrels. These dogs are very active indoors and will fit into apartment life comfortably. They need daily walking besides playing to satisfy their energy levels. They are alert dogs that will signal the arrival of an approaching stranger. They make good watch dogs. The Nortese dogs are very friendly and kind to all family members. They like to be around their owners and cuddle in their lap. They make excellent companion dogs.
Care
Their Maltese like coat will need minimal grooming and brushing every 3-5 days to clean up dead and broken hair. Their Terrier like coat will need hand stripping of old hair. This type of coat will need frequent grooming.
Training
The Nortese dogs are very trainable. They are intelligent and docile dogs that love to please their owners. This makes them easy to train dogs.
Activity
The Nortese dogs are high energy and very active dogs. They will need lots of play indoor and a daily walk to keep them happy and content.
