General

The Old Deerhound Sheepdog is a cross between two large size pure breed dogs. These dogs are obtained by a mix between a purebred Old English Sheepdog and a purebred Scottish Deerhound. They are called hybrid dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds.

The Old Deerhound Sheepdogs are large size dogs with an average height of 26-32 inches and weight between 80 to 100 pounds. These dogs are very friendly, obedient and eager to please. They are high energy dogs that will need large open areas to play and exercise. They are generally good with children and get along well with other pets as long as they are properly trained and socialized. These dogs are intelligent and social and very adaptable.

They make good family pets for very active families or owners who are ready to fulfill their exercise needs.

Color

Common colours for theses dogs are Grey, blue, fawn , yellow, black, grizzle or any mix of these colours with optional white markings.

Coat

They can have harsh and wiry coat of a Scottish Deerhound or they can have long and silky coat of Old English Sheepdog.

Personality

The Old Deerhound Sheepdogs are extremely friendly, docile and eager to please dogs. They are gentle and good natured dogs that love human companionship. These dogs are intelligent, social and very adaptable. They are good for all family members including children but do have a playful tendency to herd people and children. They can also chase after small animals if not properly socialized from early puppyhood. These dogs are high energy and very playful and will ideally need large an open yard or safe place to run and play. They can fit into city life as long as the owner takes care of their exercise needs and take them for daily walks and dog parks where they can run and play games to relieve their excess energy. These dogs are very gentle and obedient and will make good family pets for active families.

Care

Supervision is must when these dogs are around small children as they may playfully try and herd them.

Training

They are intelligent and eager to please dogs and together with their tractability, they are easy to train dogs. They would need gentle and loving training routines and will love to learn new things.

Activity

These dogs are very active and agile and need lots of exercise to be happy and content. A large open safe area, preferably a fenced yard or a dog park will take care of their running and playing activities.
