Breed Details

General

The Patterland Terrier breed is a cross breed between the Patterdale Terrier and the Lakeland Terrier breeds. This breed makes great watchdogs are they are naturally courageous, alert and lively. They may be small in size but the owner of this dog should be able to give them the exercise they need to burn excess energy. Owners should also have a strong personality so as not to allow this dog to be a pack leader.

Color

The Patterland Terrier could come in solid blue, black, liver, red, bronze, grizzle or tan and may have white markings on the chest or the feet.

Coat

This breed will have a double coat the same as their predecessors. Regular trimming of the coat above the eyes should be maintained so that they will still be able to have eye-contact with humans and other dogs.

Personality

The Patterlands are brave, lively and alert. Making them wonderful as watchdogs. They have the tendency to become barkers but enough discipline should be able to quiet them down.

Care

This breed should be bathed as needed. Grooming on the other hand should be done regularly to keep their hygiene in top shape.

Training

This breed needs to be socialized early with other animals in the family. Their hunting instincts may lead to hurting animals that are smaller than the Patterlands so proper socialization should be done at their young age so they are comfortable around them at adulthood. Do not allow these dogs to take over the pack leader as they could become insecure, feisty and willful.

Activity

The Patterland Terriers are working dogs in nature which requires for them to have a daily vigorous exercise. They need to be walked with emphasis that they are not the pack leader placing them beside or behind the human walking them. With their energy burned off, makes them happy and balanced.
