The Pom-Silk dogs need careful and regular grooming. Bathing should be done regularly to keep them looking good. It will be a bit tedious for the owner as it requires to be cared for daily. These dogs are generally healthy but their predecessor breeds and parents need to be looked up for health issues they encountered. Some of these health issues are patellar luxation, intervertebral disc disease, elbow dysplasia, Legg-Perthes, diabetes, epilepsy, tracheal collapse, heart problems, slipped stifle, skin irritations, eye infections, tooth decay and tooth loss. Regular visits to the vet should be done to be able to catch these issues early for treatment.
These dogs need a firm and consistent pack leader to show them proper leadership, discipline and structure that all dogs instinctively need. They need to be properly socialized early in life so they won't chase after other house pets. They are intelligent dogs and needs only straight-forward training as they enjoy learning.
The Pom-Silks are very suitable for apartment or small space living. These dogs are active indoors and they should be fine without a yard to run around; however, they still need their long daily walks. Draining their energy should keep them content, stable and well-balanced dogs.
