Breed Details

General

The Pomeagle dog breed is a designer or hybrid breed. They are developed from half Beagle and half Pomeranian breeds.

This breed makes wonderful watchdogs for their intelligent, brave and very loyal to their humans. They also get along well with children and other dogs which makes them suitable as family dogs. However, unless they were properly socialized by their handlers, they cannot be trusted with the non-canine members of the household due to their hunting instincts that may kick in.

Color

This dog's coat color can come in a variety of coat colors and patterns. This includes Red, Orange, White, Cream, Blue, Brown, Black, Black/Tan, Wolf Sable, Orange Sable, Brindle, Lemon, etc.

Coat

This dog is an average shedder. Their coat's characteristics will greatly depend on which line has stronger genes to inherit. The coat can be longer than the Beagles or shorter than the Pomeranian. Their coat will require care depending on the length of coat they have inherited.

Personality

This dog is very intelligent, brave, eager to learn and very loyal to the owner and family. They make great show dogs and companions. They are very suitable as watchdogs. They are great with children and other dogs. However, their Beagle line's hunting instincts makes them untrustworthy with non-canine pets. Early socialization with non-canine pets should be done to lessen these hunting instincts.

Care

The Peagles need to be groomed regularly. Brush with a firm bristle brush. Bathe and dry shampoo as necessary. The intensity would depend on the length of coat it has inherited from its parents. As this dog is a hybrid dog, their parents and predecessor breeds should be looked up for health issues they have encountered. Hybrid dogs are usually done to improve the quality of a breed so they are naturally healthy. Regular visits to the veterinarian should be done to ensure that health issues are caught early before it could worsen.

Training

These dogs are highly trainable as they are very smart in nature. They need a firm, consistent and strong human to train them. It is important that these dogs are never allowed to take over the household. This is called the Small Dog Syndrome, where the dog thinks that they need to lead for their masters.

Activity

These dogs need their daily walk. They are great for apartment living as long as they are taken for walks regularly. Play can take care of draining their energy but as will any dog, play cannot satisfy their primal instinct to walk.
