The Saint Bernewfie is a mix between a purebred Saint Bernard and a purebred Newfoundland. The resulting dogs are called hybrid dogs due to their origination from two different pure breeds.
These dogs are large in size with an average weight and height of 100-200 pounds and 26-29 inches respectively. Their big size makes them a terror for strangers or intruders but by nature these dogs can be easily labelled as gentle giants. With an outstanding temperament and very friendly nature, these dogs are no threat to their family or harmless strangers. They are protective and brave when needed.
The Saint Bernewfie dogs are very sweet, loving, caring, obedient, intelligent and eager to please. They like to spend more time with their family than alone. They are very patient as well as playful with children and generally get along well with other dogs and pets in the family although early age socialization and obedience training is a must. These dogs should be trained from beginning to obey their master as it will become difficult for even an strong adult to control them when they are mature.
These dogs are good watch dogs. They may not be very active like some of the other dogs but they do need fair amount of physical and mental activity to satisfy their working nature. These dogs can fit into apartment life if their exercise needs are met. They are very loving and sweet dogs to have as family pets.
