Breed Details

General

The Ttoodlee is cross between the poodle and the Tibetan Terrier. Both parent breeds are considered ideal family dogs, for their calm temperament and gentle disposition. Also, both are noted for their instinctive intelligence and trainability. The Ttoodle is a good all-around dog that can be worker, pet, guard, and companion to different types of households.

The Tibetan Terrier, despite its name, is not strictly grouped with any other type of dog. Uncertainties in its origins abound, but it is generally accepted that this is an ancient Asian breed, popular and prized as sacred or lucky dogs in Tibet and China long before reaching Europe and the rest of the world.

The Poodle, a German breed, was originally bred for hunting and retrieving in and around water. Highly intelligent and trainable, it is one of the most popular breeds of dogs, and valued for its personality and abilities as much as its appearance and presentation in the conformation ring.

Color

The Ttoodle can come in many colors or color patterns. Solid colors will include white, black, brown, apricot, blue, and grey. Parti-color, tri-color, brindle and piebald is possible. Gold as a solid color is considered rare, but still acceptable.

Coat

The Ttoodle's coat can take after either parent's, although it is highly improbable to inherit a mixture of the two. The Tibetan Terrier has hair instead of fur, and this continuously growing double coat serves as protection against extreme weather conditions. The Poodle has a single coat of tight curls close to its body. Its density and abundance lends it to various clips, or grooming styles, and has given rise to the impression of the poodle being a stylish or fashionable pet.

Personality

The Ttoodle is a gentle, affectionate family dog that nevertheless excels in several skills. Its bloodlines can be traced to good hunting and herding dogs, and its intelligence lends it very to training for other tasks, such as standing watch/guard. It is patient and playful for children, and can be sensitive to people's moods. It can be reserved with strangers, which is expected from smart, confident dog not bred to be a soft lap dog. The Toodle can relax indoors, but it can be a surprisingly energetic dog, and will thrive on constant stimulation and activity. If to be housed with other dogs, it should be exposed at an early age, to minimize jealousy and dominance challenges.

Care

If a profuse coat is preferred, professional grooming will be best, which may take up several hours per week. Otherwise, brushing every other day will help get rid of sloughed hair or shed fur, which gets stuck in surrounding hair/fur.Weekly shampooing and blow drying might be necessary for shows, but on the whole, as long as the coat is kept clean and mat-free by frequent brushing, bathing can be done once a month.

Training

The Ttoodle is best socialized at a young age, and trained for obedience with a firm yet gentle hand. It is an agile animal, and can easily learn tricks and obey a variety of commands.

Activity

Daily walks and visits to an off-leash park will go towards maintaining a Ttoodle's good behavior. It can adapt to indoor living, but the occasional open space is needed. Exercise can be jogging or agility courses, to keep it fit and stimulated.
