Polycythemia vera is condition where bone marrow is hyperactive and producing more RBCs than needed resulting in a blood disorder that involves the thickening of the blood. It is primarily seen in older dogs. It is a chronic condition and the symptoms appear over a course of time. Common symptoms would include weakness, depression, lack of appetite, redness of skin, increased thirst and frequent urination.
