Necrotizing encephalitis is inflammation of the brain along with necrosis or death of the brain tissue. It is only seen in a few specific breeds including pugs, Yorkshire terriers, Maltese, chihuahuas and shi-tzus.
Symptoms vary in different breeds and depend on the area of the brain affected. Some common symptoms may include abnormal behavior, seizures, circling and blindness.
