Brain Tissue Undervelopment in Dogs

Cerebellar hypoplasia is a condition where parts of the cerebellum have not completely developed. This could be due to genetic causes or due to causes like infections, toxins or nutritional deficiencies. Cerebellar hypoplasia is hereditary in Airedales, Chow Chows, Boston Terriers, and Bull Terrierbreeds.

Symptoms become visible when the puppies begin to stand and walk. Some common symptoms include head bobbing, limb tremors, unsteadiness or clumsiness, unable to judge distance and disequilibrium, falling, and flipping over.
