L-carnitine acts as a transport for fatty acids that are essential for the cellular production of energy. L-carnitine is important for muscle tissue to receive energy and function normally and therefore a deficiency can cause a variety of conditions specially heart diseases. Carnitine supplements may not always be able to significantly reverse the effects of this deficiency but they are the best course of treatment.
