Sarcocystis Infection in Dogs

Sarcocystosis refers to invasion of muscles by unicellular protozoans, of the genus Sarcocystis. The condition is generally asymptomatic as affected dogs rarely show any signs. 

Signs that may be seen include:

Lack of appetite

Weight loss

Diarrhea, potentially bloody diarrhea

Dehydration

Depression

Paralysis

Muscle pain

Myositis (inflammation with the muscle)

Muscle atrophy (muscle wasting)
