Stomach and Intestinal Cancer (Leiomyosarcoma) in Dogs

Leiomyosarcoma is an uncommon and malignant form of cancer which arises from smooth. Internal organs are made up of smooth muscles. Leiomyosarcoma of the stomach and intestines refers to the location of the tumor. Leiomyosarcoma is an uncommon tumor of the stomach and intestinal tract. It can develop from any internal organ but stomach and gastrointestinal tract are the most affected areas.

This is a very painful and dangerous disease that affects mostly older dogs of over six years of age. Moreover, the tumor can spread (metastasize) to other organs although the progression is slow.

 Common symptoms associated with this tumor are

Vomiting

Weight loss

Diarrhea

Blood in stool (hematochezia)

Gas (flatulence)

Stomach growling, or rumbling sound (borborygmus)

Feeling of incomplete defecation (fenesmus)
