The Basset Artesien Normand is a small size long dog with short legs and long body. The ratio of height with body length is about 5:8. The dog stands firm and balanced. The head is doomed-shaped with moderately long muzzle. The black nose is wide with open nostrils. Eyes are large, dark and oval shape with an expression of calmness and seriousness. The long, supple and delicate ears are set low on the head and should not be above eye-line. The neck is long and sometimes comes with dewlap. Shoulders are muscular and oblique. Short forelegs are heavy boned and are half crooked. Short hind legs are in proportion to forelegs and provide balance to the body. Chest is oval shaped while wide and well-supported back is straight and level. The loins are slightly tucked up. Feet of this dog are elongated and oval shaped. The long tail is quite thick at the base and tapering towards the end.The Basset Artesien Normand has a short and smooth coat that comes in tricolor, white and fawn. The dog has height and weight between 12-14 inches and 25-35 pounds respectively.
This breed is NOT recognized by AKC however FCI and UKC recognize this dog as pure breed.
