The Perdiguero Navarro is also known as Old Spanish Pointer, Navarro Pointer, Pachon Navarro and, Pachon De Victoria. It is also referred to as 'double nosed dog' for its unusually 'split or double' nose. It appears to be a normal dog's nose, but with the nostrils separated by a band of skin and fur dividing the nose all the way to the dog's upper lip. The Perdiguero Navarro is a hunting dog that originated in Spain.
The perdiguero Navarro is believed to have been developed as early as the twelfth century from Talbot Hound and other hound breeds. It may be the ancestor of the other pointers including the double-nosed Andean tiger hound found in South America. Although the breed has come close to extinction several times over the centuries, it was kept alive in rural Spain. Originally used to hunt elk, it is now used as a partridge dog, capable of hunting, pointing, and retrieving birds.
