Urolithiasis is the medical condition where urinary stones are formed or located anywhere in the urinary system. Stuvite is a material that is comprised of magnesium, ammonium and phosphate. It is the primary composition of the stones. Stuvite stones account for one third of all the stones found in the urinary tracts of dogs.
Urolithiasis generally occurs in middle-aged dogs (six to seven years of age) and is more common in female dogs.
Some dogs remain asymptomatic. Others show urinary problems such as
Abnormal urine stream
Difficulty urinating (dysuria)
Frequent urination
Blood in the urine (hematuria)
Cloudy urine
Increased thirst
